What is DELF?
If you are learning French, you might have heard the word DELF- but what exactly is it? DELF means Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française. It is an official language certification that is authorised by the French Ministry of Education. It is an internationally recognised proficiency exam that evaluates French skills for academic or professional purposes. It’s a powerful asset for you, whether you are applying for Canada immigration (think DELF Canada) to work in Europe, or simply add a credential to your resume.
Structure of DELF exam
DELF is composed of 4 levels, ie, A1, A2, B1, and B2. It follows CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) guidelines. Each level carries 4 sections carrying 25 marks each, making a total of 100 marks. To pass, a student must score at least 50 marks overall and a minimum of 25 per section.
Global value of DELF Certification
DELF certification is often a requirement if you wish to study in countries like France, Canada, Belgium, or Switzerland. It is the key to unlock scholarships, internships, and international fellowships, and can help you secure a job in international relations, tourism, hospitality, fashion, journalism, or business, signifying that you can communicate across cultures, adapt to diverse environments, and think beyond borders. Once you earn this certificate, it is yours forever, as it has no expiry.
